Or so social media said after the Illinois Governor’s Emergency Order of April 6, 2020. Governor Pritzker did nothing to release prisoners in Executive Order 2020-20. Instead he basically decreed, “don’t come back to the Illinois Department of Corrections with Covid.”

Furloughs are a release from prison for a definite time, with an order for the prisoner to return at a particular time.

The Governor eliminated the 14 day limit for furloughs, and instead said furloughs can be granted until the end of the “duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation.”

Furloughed prisoners released because they cannot obtain necessary medical, psychiatric, or psychological services, in prison may also be released for more than 14 days.
